BOOK REVIEW: Winning Ways of Women Coaches

Review: Vicky, Founder of the FCN

A super inspiring and rare insight into high performance coaching.

This follow on from “She Can Coach” edited by Cecile Reynaud is a fantastic insight into coaching high performance sport. The list of names involved in the writing of this book is phenomenal; from Rachel Balkovec -the first woman to work as a full-time manager of a major league-affiliated team, Carla Nicholls – one of the few women leading and coaching global high performance track & field, to Tara Vandeveer – one of the most successful basketball coaches of all time…this book is PACKED with incredible women, incredible coaches and incredible advice.

Split into 3 key areas of the coaching profession, (Coaching Career Path, Program Development and Athlete Engagement), “Winning Ways of Women Coaches” provides insights into the lives and profession of each coach, as they delve into the specific topic their section is committed to. It is so rare to find a book that covers the reality, the challenges and the lessons learned in high performance coaching whilst providing tips and advice from such an array of coaches and sports.

I would highly recommend this book to any coach wanting to increase their understanding of the coaching profession, to any coach who aspires to coach in high performance sport and to any coach developer looking at improving their coach development programmes.
