The FCN spend August promoting athletics and highlighting the impact of female coaches throughout Europe

Vicky Huyton·Jul 29, 2018· 3 minutes

2018 has seen a busy year so far for the Female Coaching Network team as they took on a major project supporting SPAR UK and SPAR International

with their sponsorship of British Athletics and European Athletics respectively.

During the indoor Track and Field season at the beginning of the year, the FCN team delivered a number of activities at the British Indoor National Trials, the IAAF Grand Prix in Glasgow and the IAAF World Championships in Birmingham.  The activities included workshops on running, jumping and throwing evens giving a new generation of young athletes the opportunity to try out their favourite sport, as well as giving a group of up and coming coaches the chance to coach and work around an elite competitive environment. The FCN continued this project into the summer outdoor season as they delivered similar events at the Outdoor British Athletics Trials and the IAAF London Anniversary Games and in August, the IAAF Diamond League in Birmingham.     In the coming weeks, the FCN team, along with some of the coaches involved with the British events, will travel out to Berlin, Germany, to be part of the European Athletics Championships, sponsored by SPAR International.  The team will once again deliver run, jump, throw activities on a larger scale at the iconic Berlin Olympic stadium, which played host to the 1936 Games. In addition to this, founder of the FCN will be supporting the delivery of the European Athletics Coaches Club; a brand new project which is a collaboration between European Athletics and European Athletics Coaches Association.  The aims of this project are to develop the competence and development of European coaches, increase the capacity and accessibility of European coaching and to provide a supportive environment for European coaches. During the EA Championships, coaches will enjoy a week long timetable of workshops delivered by some of Europe's best athletics coaches and learn more about topics including: rehabilitation after injury, adaptability in high performance coaching, high performance science and preparing coaches to win.  Top coaches will include: Frank Dick, Paula Dunn and Charles Van Commenee. The FCN Founder will be delivering her workshop on the first official day of the Championship and address the strength of female coaches: "The Strength of Female Coaches; Low in Numbers, High in Success Rate."  It is hoped that through this presentation, coaches across Europe will learn the impact that women coaches have within sport and work out a plan as to how each individual can themselves, help support the growth of elite female track and field coaches within the sport. Join our twitter page on Tuesday 7th August for live tweets and images from the presentation and throughout the week for behind the scenes of all the action!
